MADISON, Wis. - A Madison musician and private-lesson drum instructor was charged last week with possession of child pornography.

Scott Schroedl, 49, of Madison, was charged Friday with 10 counts of possession of child pornography after police found eight videos and two pictures depicting child porn on his external hard drive, according to a criminal complaint.

Schroedl is a “full-time musician, live performer, freelance studio drummer, The Dream Factor recording studio owner and popular private-lesson music instructor based in Madison,” according to his website. He has also published several books on drumming.

According to the complaint, police seized an external hard drive when they executed a search warrant at his residence on April 20.

The external hard drive contained eight videos, all about 10 minutes long depicting images of child pornography, and two pictures, police said. Schroedl admitted to police that he owned the external hard drive and the laptop it was connected to.

There is no indication that any of Schroedl’s music students were part of the images or videos.

If he is found guilty, Schroedl faces a maximum penalty of $100,000 dollars and 25 years in prison on all 20 charges. He is scheduled to be back in court June 5.
