APPLETON-- Appleton police are issuing a warning about a man considered to be a violent sex offender who has been deeded by the courts likely to re-offend. He is required to wear a GPS monitoring device so police can keep close tabs on him.

Police say Herbert Wilkins was released from a Green Bay prison in October. He is considered homeless and has been staying at the Fox Valley Warming Shelter for about a week.

Wilkins is originally from Chicago and has been convicted of sex crimes against adult and minor females in Illinois Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Wilkins is one of about 240 registered sex offenders currently living in Appleton. He will be required to wear the GPS device as long as he stays in Wisconsin.
