Man Arrested For Beating, Sexually Assaulting Woman
APPLETON-- Police arrested 23-year-old Perry Hulbert early Thursday morning for allegedly beating and sexually assaulting a woman in a parking lot near the 300 block of N. Appleton St. downtown.
Police say the suspect did not know the female victim and this was a rare example of stranger on stranger crime in the city. Hulbert allegedly attacked the woman as she walked home from a a nearby bar just after 2:00 a.m.
Police say he dragged her body more than a block and a half to a parking lot where he sexually assaulted her. Police say he also punched her repeatedly and strangled her. The victim told officers she wasn't sure if she would make it out alive.
A car pulled into the lot during the attack, stopping the assault The suspect grabbed the victim's purse and ran. He was found minutes later by officers investigating the crime. An Appleton officer noticed a car circling the area and pulled it over. Hulbert was a passenger in the car. He was arrested and charged with more than half a dozen crimes.
He faces separate charges in both Outagamie and Winnebago counties.
