Man Could Face Arson Charge
GREEN BAY, Wis. --A Green Bay man could be charged for allegedly starting a fire inside the former Beach Road Liquor Store.
Officers are recommending 53-year-old James Parrish be charged with arson. He's expected to make his first court appearance Thursday.
Police say Tuesday night Parrish walked into the store, dumped a liquid on the register, and set it on fire.
The building is now Dollar Land Inc.
Doveit Austin's regular shopping trip was cut short by crime scene tape.
"I think that is outrageous. I think this town, a lot of weird stuff has been happening," Austin said.
The same owners are already at the center of a welfare fraud investigation. Captain Jim Runge tells us the two incidents are not connected.
"It's just one of those odd things that happened. For whatever reason this guy got in his mind he needed to do this," Captain Runge said.
Investigators say the owners don't know Parrish, who lives near the store and suffers from mental issues.
"I hope he gets the help he needs, and whatever they got going on in this store stops if they want to keep me as a customer at least," Austin said.
Police say Parrish is no stranger to them. He's had a history of alcohol related incidents but nothing serious. The owners did not want to comment on the arrest.
