Tower Challenge
ASHWAUBENON, WI -- It's a day of strength challenge at Parkview Middle School.
Nearly 300 eighth-graders built 2-ounce towers, to see if they can support about 150 pounds of weight. The towers are made from balsa wood, and common household glue.
The event is sponsored by Ayres Associated of Green Bay. They want to show students it's not the material, it’s the engineering that counts.
“Many students don’t know what an engineer is so it's nice to give them an early start in their career, and maybe eventually become a civil engineer,” said Matt Woicek, Transportation Engineer with Ayres Associated.
This is the 16th year for the challenge.
