NEENAH - The city of Neenah is challenging home and business owners to come together in an effort to prevent thefts.

The Neenah Police Department has officially declared this week "Theft-Free Week". Officers say every theft is preventable, and if everyone in the city works together, it's possible to cut the crime all together. The event was started when police noticed an upswing in the number of thefts.

"We got the numbers for 2012, and 410 thefts were reported to our department last year," said Crime Prevention Coordinator Cory McKone. "When you break down the numbers, that's more than one a day."

As part of the event, McKone will hold a special meeting at the police department on Thursday, focused on home, neighborhood and personal safety.
