Surprise Snow Equals Messy Commute
MANITOWOC-- It was a nasty commute for hundreds of drivers on I-43 Tuesday. Rain Monday night turned to ice and then was covered with a few inches of snow.
The snowstorm made for a busy day for tow truck drivers. Dale Aulik says snow and ice covered roads caught some drivers by surprise.
"A little bit I think it caught them off guard, we knew it was coming, but not to this extent,” Aulik said.
It was especially nasty for semi truck drivers, there were 13 slide-offs involving trucks in Manitowoc County.
"The wind catches the trailer and trailer starts to slide on the icy road and the tuck jackknives, we've had to shut this road down on several occasions today,” said Dep. Kirk Raube Manitowoc County Sheriff's department.
Police are telling drivers to slow down, no matter what they are driving.
