Fans React to Woodson's Release
GREEN BAY, WI -- Fans are reacting to defensive back, Charles Woodson, being released by the Green Bay Packers.
Woodson has played for the Packers for seven seasons, and is a fan favorite. Many say they are sad to see him leave but understand why it's necessary.
“I’m sure they'll be a lot of people that come into grab them, because no matter where he goes, he is a hall of famer,” said Mike Walters, the manager at the Jersey Store.
He showed his Charles Woodson merchandise.
"Very popular player," said Walters.
Walter explained the 2009 Defensive Player of the Year, has always been a big seller. Woodson has even stopped by the store at times.
“He signed a few things, autographed items to sell in the store, always a personable guy,” said Walters.
Fans are also talking about the news at Stadium View Bar and Grill today.
“It feels like you're breaking up with a good friend,” said Elissa Shaw from Green Bay.
“He's so dynamic,” said Tyler Opichka. “From the run, to the pass stopping, he was all over the field.”
But they say they can understand the move by the Packers.
“It's hard to keep somebody around when you've got upcoming talent,” said Opichka.
“He’s got a big contract, and he's been injured the past couple of years so I can understand why they're letting him go,” said Shaw.
But many fans say they hope the 36 year-old Woodson will stay around the Green Bay area.
“Stick around and be part of the city, part of the fans,” said Opichka.
Or if he does continue his career, it won’t be for a rival.
“Wish him the best; hope he lands somewhere outside the division,” said Walters.
