ASHWAUBENON, WI--Treacherous roads across the area Thursday night. It's been snowing for several hours now and that's causing problems for drivers.

Roads have gotten worse as we head into the night.. A combination of wind, snow and ice making for difficult driving, keeping many people at home. And those who are venturing out, say driving in this is no easy task.

"You just sort of steer in the general direction. You don't really turn a corner you glide around a corner," said driver Ralph Witte.

Witte is just one person who braved the weather to help his wife shovel snow where she works. But he says it's best to avoid driving if you can.

"It's a challenge and you have to be really aware of braking distances and all that" said Witte.

Crews have been out plowing and salting since the early hours of the day when the snow started falling. But many areas are still snow covered and icy.

"The roads could be a little better. I know they're out as much as they can but they'll get to them probably overnight" said driver Dustin Gresen.

"You can feel it as you try to go around a corner you can feel your tires just losing traction. Getting on the highway these ramps were not in good condition at all" said another driver, Susan Dutton.

Wisconsinites are used to driving in winter weather but for some springtime can't come soon enough.

"I can handle a day or two but not a week or two of this"saud driver Tyler James.

Wisconsin State Patrol says they've been responding to minor crashes, mostly people sliding off the road.
