GREEN BAY, WI--Members of the Packers organization praised Donald Driver  for what he brought to the team -- and to the community.

Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy and the General Manager Ted Thompson touched on how Donald has been not only an exemplary player but also a very special person.

Murphy said it's always bittersweet when a great player's career ends. He also said he's never known a player with a better connection than Driver to the fans.

And Thompson recounted his earliest memories of driver from the moment he was drafted in 1999.

"Through that grainy black and white tape that we had from Alcorn,  you could see the joy that Donald had in playing the game and I think you could see the joy Donald had in playing the game throughout his entire career" said Thompson.

"For a player like Donald to play his entire career with one team and to leave on his own terms is really something special" said Murphy.

This is the first time in Green Bay Packers history that a player has had a public retirement.

Also, Ted Thompson mentioned that Driver was a seventh round draft pick. But he says that doesn't matter, scouts make mistakes all the time and what matter's the most is the player's character.
