Hundreds turn out for MLK Celebration
GREEN BAY --Martin Luther King day is this coming Monday, but people in northeast Wisconsin, already holding celebrations in his honor.
Hundreds attended the MLK celebration at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. Speakers and performances, highlight the theme this year which is "Advancing the Dream Together...What is my Role"
"This is again to remind ourselves, so that we do not sit down and forget it.We don't not just celebrate his birthday once a year and every year but it has to be everyday to remind us," said organizer Alem Asres
Monday is a federal holiday in King's honor. It was officially observed in all 50 states for the first time in the year 2000.
King was assassinated in 1968.
