State Senator Launches Attack on Kwanzaa
A Wisconsin state senator is on the attack when it comes to one of the holidays that takes place this time of year.
Glenn Grothman from West Bend calls Kwanzaa "a fake, fraudulent holiday".
Grothman says he's tired of Wisconsinites talking about the African-American celebration, and wants to "set the record straight".
Those who celebrate the holiday, like the Executive Director of the Wisconsin Black Historical Society, say they're shocked by his remarks.
"This is a free America to celebrate whatever we choose to celebrate," said Clayborn Benson.
"I think the average person thinks Kwanzaa is this African celebration that has been around for hundreds of years. In fact, it was created in 1966 by a radical Marxist," said Grothman.
Grothman also argues that Kwanzaa "divides" the American people.
