Outagamie County Prepares For Storm
APPLETON-- Inside Outagamie County's 911center, extra dispatchers are on staff to deal with a high volume of calls due to the blizzard.
“If we do know about it ahead of time we do staff appropriately, luckily in this situation there has been a lot of warning, hopefully drivers have heeded that warning as well,” said shift supervisor Angela Owens.
At Outagamie County Emergency Management, Robert Olson is coordinating with several agencies to stay on top of this major snow storm.
"We’ll make a determination based on activating our own physical emergency operations center based on local reports," Olson said.
Outagamie County leaders are constantly monitoring what it's like outside, so they are prepared no matter how much snow piles up."08
"It’s not only the sheriff's department; it's the highway department, all the county department heads, the county executive's office," Olson said.
Dispatchers received about 40 reports of car accidents or vehicles in a ditch by early afternoon. They are expecting that number to rise during the evening commute.
"We’re going to try and get their exact location especially when we have numerous accidents in the same area,” Owens said.
Staying safe in the storm is a coordinated effort involving county leaders, and cooperation from drivers.
