GREEN BAY, WI--The hurricane Is having a direct impact on the presidential election in Wisconsin. President Obama and Mitt Romney cancel their trips here. Romney was scheduled to be in the Milwaukee-area Monday. The president was supposed to be in the Green Bay-area Tuesday.

Some say appearence is everything. and as the race to the White House heats up both candaidates don't want to appear to be putting politics ahead of a national emergency.

Brown County Democratic Headquarters was buzzing this morning but not the way volunteers had hoped. Instead of a sign making event to greet the president, volunteers are now telling people with tickets the campaign stop is cancelled.

"The president needs to be in Washington DC to do his job and that is what we want him to do. So that's where he is. We understand that very well. And we support him" said the chair of the Democratic Party of Brown County, mary Ginnebaugh.

Mitt Romney also calling off his campaign stop in Milwaukee hours before doors were set to open. The Romney campaign office says the decision is out of sensitivity to those in the hurricane's path.

"It's a common sense thing. He's off the road. It's a smart thing," said the chair of the Republican party of Brown County, Vern Krawczyk.

Political experts say the hurricane will change the candidates campaign style, especially Mitt Romney's.

"He's going to have to modify his campaign style because he can't come out as an attack dog against the president when he is in the White House trying to be the head of the emergency response" said St. Norbert professor of political science, Wendy Scattergood.

As for the president, experts say right now it's too early to tell if sandy will help or hurt him. It all depends on how he handles the situation in the next seven days.

The storm is also affecting early voting. In some east coast states like Maryland early voting has been cancelled Monday and Tuesday.
