Charlie Knuth's Condition Improving
After months in a hospital bed, Darboy's Charlie Knuth is taking some big steps forward. A new video posted by his mother, Trisha, shows Charlie laughing and smiling. He's suffering from a rare and painful skin disease.
"He's finally starting to feel better. He was feeling miserable for a while there a couple weeks ago, and we were starting to fear that we were dealing with the same thing that brought us here in the first place," said Trisha Knuth.
Charlie continues to fight in a Minnesota hospital following his second stem cell transplant. Trisha says Charlie's positive progress over the past few days is more than encouraging.
"His cells are growing once again, and the infection is now gone. The antibiotics have been stopped, and he's a happy boy," she said.
For Trisha, hearing Charlie's laughter is a miracle in itself.
"That was the first time we had seen him like that in quite some time. It was a great feeling, and I had to capture it -- that's for sure," she said. "I just want to thank everybody for still following along through all these ups and downs, and this continuance of just anxiety and stress and hoping Charlie's going to be better. We appreciate it, and thank you for sticking by us."
Next week will mark 100 days post-transplant for Charlie. Trisha says while she doesn't know what the future holds, she hopes they'll be going back home to Darboy in the very near future.
