FOND DU LAC - A fallen member of the Fond du Lac Police Department is being honored through a new documentary.
Officer Craig Birkholz was shot to death while investigating a domestic dispute in March of 2011. Now, more than a year after his tragic death, a documentary called "Heroes Behind the Badge" featuring Birkholz will debut in Fond du Lac.
The film profiles the Fond du Lac standoff and six other incidents from across the country. It digs deep into how the events affected communities, and those closest to the officers.
The documentary tells the story of both Birkholz and fellow officer Ryan Williams. Williams was critically injured in the standoff.
Proceeds from Thursday night's screening will go to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and the Boys & Girls Club of Fond du Lac.
