GREEN BAY-- President Barrack Obama's Deputy Labor Secretary Seth Harris visited NWTC to help announce a $15 million federal grant. The technical college is among 300 schools in the country to receive a grant to train the manufacturing workforce of the future.
NWTC’s technology labs are filled with students like Joseph Everhard, training to become the next wave of a highly sought-after skilled workforce. Everhard is benefiting from a program that’s putting laid-off manufacturing workers back into the classroom.
"I would of never been able to have the opportunity to come back to school, with having a mortgage, and two young kids you got to work, you got to make money, you go to support your family," Everhard said.
Deputy Secretary Harris says NWTC will split the money between its 16 Wisconsin campuses.
"So that they can expand these programs, work more closely with employers to get workers the credentials skills and knowledge they need so they can into jobs stay in jobs and they are good quality jobs,” Harris said.
It's money that will improve programs to train workers and help more students find work.
