Dangerous Chemicals Released At Marinette Plant
MARINETTE - According to a press release from the City of Marinette, a chemical release of an ammonia based product occurred at ChemDesign Corp, which affected the nearby Marinette Marine Corp. plant.
At 6:07 pm Marinette County Dispatch received a call from Marinette Marine Corp. reporting an odor. The City of Marinette Fire Department/County Hazardous Materials Response Team, responded to the plant and determined the release was confined to ChemDesign and Marinette Marine properties.
Some Marinette Marine Corp. workers complained of nausea and headache. As a precaution, the plant suspended operations and sent all workers from their second shift home early. No one sought medical treatment. The release was stopped by approximately 9:20pm. The Hazardous Materials Team remained on scene to conduct further air monitoring of the buildings and two vessels being built.
The cause of the release is being investigated by ChemDesign personnel.
