NBC26 Lance Allan: New NFL Referees contract to be Ratified Friday
NBC26 Sports-NBC26 Lance Allan is reporting final details of a deal to end the NFL Referees lockout should be wrapped up late Thursday night or early Friday morning. Officials are expected to head to Dallas on Friday to ratify a new 8 year contract that would bring the regular referees back to the field in time for Sundays round of NFL Games.
That would include Sunday afternoon's Packers game against the New Orleans Saints in Lambeau Field.
Part of the agreement includes a new training system of intern referees that would be on standby as replacements, or future refs.
Replacement referees would still be needed for Thursday's Browns Ravens game.
The news comes after a day of back and forth negotiations. ESPN reported that "an agreement in principle is at hand." The New York Times said the sides "were closing in" on a new agreement.
The NFL declined to confirm that a tentative contract was imminent.
