BROWN COUNTY, WI - Small businesses are taking the center stage in the presidential race. Monday, more than 60 Wisconsin small businesses announced they are standing in support of President Obama’s plan. But some Republicans say the president hasn't done enough to help.
One of the owners standing with the President is Chris Spah, owner of The Pasty Shop in De Pere.
“He’s the only candidate who will make things better,” she said.
She believes that for numerous reasons. For example, she said the president has expanded healthcare and tax cuts, and knows the struggle with rising costs and customers who are facing tough times.
Spah said the Romney-Ryan ticket would only hurt small business.
“They're very out of touch, “said Spah. “I don’t think they have a clue what it's like for people to scrape from day to day.”
But Republicans don't agree.
“Any time someone helps out small businesses is great, but you have to look at what he does as opposed to what he says,” said Mark Becker with the Republican Party of Brown County.
He said Gov. Mitt Romney and Congressman Paul Ryan can fix the economy.
“You have the guy from Washington who is the economic nut, and then you have the person who has spent his life in business,” said Becker.
Adding President Obama has enforced too much regulation for businesses, and not extended Bush-Era tax cuts.
“No one knows how to be a successful business than the business owner himself, so it's just getting out of the way,” said Becker.
Other businesses standing with the president in our area were a coffeehouse and a marketing firm.
