Buffalo Die of Dehydration
Oneida Nation--Oneida police are investigating how 25 buffalo died of dehydration. The buffalo are raised by the Oneida Nation, a spokesperson for the tribe says they're investigating how the water pump was not turned on, that supplied water to a part of their herd.
Police started getting calls after the Labor Day holiday. The deceased animals were found on Tuesday. Oneida spokesperson Phil Wisneski says, "Spiritual leaders in the community have come out here to help the community heal. They also want to be out here for the buffalo because they are family." A ceremony was held early Friday morning to honor the fallen animals and those that still graze.
