APPLETON - Women in the Fox Valley are taking part in a national movement to help bring better care for women giving birth.

A group gathered in Appleton Monday to raise awareness about complications women can face when having a baby. Many feel unnecessary procedures put babies and their mothers at higher risk for complications.

"This is not about negating all C-sections or all interventions. Of course we're thankful for necessary interventions that are saving lives. But unfortunately right now, a lot of the interventions are not based on lifesaving measure.. they're just part of routine," said rally organizer Rachel Hansen.

According to improvingbirth.org, 33% of women in the U.S. will have a C-section. The W.H.O. says that number should only be around 15%.
