Green Bay, WI - Democrats are less than a week away from their national convention, taking place in Charlotte, North Carolina. That’s where President Barack Obama will address the nation about his plans for re-election.
The convention will kick off Monday, Sept. 3, and President Obama will speak on Thursday, Sept. 6.
Thursday, the Democratic Headquarters in Brown County was buzzing with people excited for the convention.
“They know this is the election that's going to make a difference for all of us,” said Nancy Schleis. She is going to Charlotte as a Wisconsin delegate.
Patti Philbrick-Linzmeyer is also a delegate going to Charlotte from Green Bay, leaving on Sunday.
“I'm hoping to bring back a lot of information. There are a lot of caucuses to attend, a lot of women's groups, world groups, ethnic caucuses,” she said.
Philbrick-Linzmeyer has been involved with the Democratic Party for years. Now she's going to the national stage.
“It matters what people do, it matters as a group and we can see results,” she said.
She'll be joined by seven other delegates from our 8th Congressional District.
“I'm so proud to be able to go and represent them,” said Schleis.
She said she’s excited to see all of next week's speakers, and believes this election is critical to moving the country forward.
“I feel what the other side is offering right now is just dangerous,” said Schleis.
The group of delegates leaves Sunday, and will return after President Obama accepts the nomination and address the nation next Thursday evening.
