Green Bay, WI -

Forget pens, pencils and notebooks.  School supplies are getting an upgrade this year!  Many elementary, middle, high school and college students prefer digital books to hard copy textbooks.

Shaana Forman, the manager of the Verizon Wireless store in Green Bay, stopped by NBC26 TODAY to share some of the latest trends.

- The new Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (or alternatives like the Motorola Xyboard) gives students the e-reader they need to ditch the heavy textbooks, apps like Evernote, Wunderlist and StudyBlue Flashcards to aid study sessions, and video chatting made easy with the speed of Verizon's 4G LTE wireless network for all those calls home.

- The popular Jawbone Jambox speaker is a small, portable wireless speaker that’s perfect for powering a study space. Students can stream all of their music right from their tablet or smartphone, and leave the clunky stereo system and boxes of CDs in the last decade.

- Gone are the days of paper calendars, here are the days of keeping life organized from a smartphone. The LG Lucid is a great phone for students on a budget and features hundreds of apps to help stay on top of assignments, schedules and activities.
