TOWN OF LYNDON-- The official search for a boater who went missing is over, but the man's family isn't giving up.
28-year old James Piechocki of Plymouth fell off a boat Saturday on Lake Ellen in Sheboygan county. Rescue crews spent 2 days looking for him, and tonight his family is picking up the search.
Piechocki went overboard while fishing on Lake Ellen with friends. Rescue crews searched Sunday and Monday for the man who friends say was full of life.
"He’s young he's vibrant happy guy with great energy and he's a solid person that had a lot of life in front of him, it's sad, said family friend Shawn Keller.
Keller is helping with the search. "It’s a shocking event that seems to be crazy, like getting struck by lightning or something that. That somebody could just fall off a boat in the middle of the night and sink like a rock is stunning," he said.
Piechocki's family and friends began searching Monday afternoon, spending all night on the water with spot lights.
"We’re making a grid with our GPS back and forth across the pond looking for something that's floating in the water with fish finder because that's all we're really capable of doing right now."
Volunteers say they will not give up until Piechocki is found and the family can begin to recover from their loss.
The family says the sheriff's department will send out divers in the morning to check spots where they believe his body may be.
