Homeless Shelter Adds Beds
A downtown Green Bay homeless shelter is adding more beds before winter weather arrives. St. John the Evangelist has received approval from the city council to add 12 beds to its temporary emergency shelter for men and women.
"The number of beds is really dependent upon the number of bathroom facilities you have, so we've done some upgrades and added some toilets and as a result of that the number technically can go up to 64," said Deacon Tim Reilly.
The shelter is often at capacity, so the extra beds will help more homeless individuals have a safe place to stay between the months of November and April.
The shelter has also asked the city council to extend its permit from two years to three.
