Regulating Packers Party Houses
ASHWAUBENON, WI--Stricter rules could soon prevent more Packers party houses from popping up near Lambeau Field. Ashwaubenon is looking to tighten up zoning regulations or require a permit for those properties.
Right now the village says properties zoned as single family homes are being used for the events. The village of Ashwaubenon identifies seven properties as "event properties", better known as "party houses."
Most are on Stadium Drive, one is on True Lane. But to prevent these properties from spreading, the village president says new rules are needed.
Stadium Drive was once a residential area, but not anymore. Two party houses under construction and others already in place.
Village President Mike Aubinger says that's somewhat to be expected so close to Lambeau but not everywhere else. The increase in party houses over the last couple of years has the village of Ashwaubenon looking at a zoning code change or requiring owners to obtain a permit from the village to use a property for entertainment events.
"You have to make sure you're doing your job as a community and protecting your residents, their biggest investment is their home," said Aubinger.
We knocked on about a dozen doors on Stadium Drive and none of the people wanted to talk on camera. They say they don't want to be involved. But some say they're looking to get out of the neighborhood, and sell their home, because of all the activity near the party houses.
Other people living near Stadium Drive say so far they haven't experienced any issues except loud music.
"If it is not at all hours of the night I don't see it being a problem," said Rachel Voskuil.
The village of Ashwaubenon will meet in September to discuss zoning changes.
We reached out to Good Karma Broadcasting, the company that owns the three news party houses on Stadium Drive. The CEO says he looks forward to working with the village of Ashwaubenon and wants to preserve the character of the neighborhood.
