WPS Scam Targets Hispanics
GREEN BAY-- Wisconsin Public Service is warning of a new scam targeting members of Green Bay's Hispanic community.
Three families have complained in the last two weeks of being contacted by someone claiming to be a WPS employee. All of the potential victims live in a largely Hispanic neighborhood on the city's east side. The person demands payment of the WPS bill in cash or using a prepaid debit card or face immediate disconnection. A spokesperson for WPS says it never asks for cash payments and if someone does, it is likely a scam.
No one has lost money because of this scam. If you've been contacted by the scam artist, call WPS to report it. The Green Bay police say it cannot get involved unless the customer lost money to the potential thief .
