·         Not only are pigs the smartest animals on the farm, but they are in the top 5 smartest animals in the WORLD!  (Only beaten out by apes, dolphins, elephants and crows.)

·         A mother pig is called a sow, a father pig is called a boar and a baby pig is called a piglet. A whole group of pigs is called a herd.

·         Pigs are some of the cleanest animals, refusing to mess anywhere near their living or eating areas.

·         If given the chance, a pig can live 10-15 years.

·         Everything on a pig is used except for its squeal. A few are:

¾    Their heart valves are implanted in humans to replace diseased heart valves.

¾    Their hair is used to make fine paint brushes.

¾    Their eyes are used in human eye transplants.

¾    Their skin grows back so can be grafted onto human burn victims.

¾    Their glands are used to make medicine, insulin being one of them.

¾    Their dried bones are used for buttons and bone china.

¾    Their fat used to make soap.

·         Mulberry Lane Farm’s boar is a Yorkshire named Champ. He is 4-years-old and weighs approximately 750 lbs.
