GREEN BAY-- Food vendors are getting ready to feed thousands of people during “Fire over the Fox.” But things are a bit different with a heat wave in full effect.    

"We are stocking extra water products and extra ice,”says Charles Miller of Charlie’s Food Concessions.

Miller says the weather affects how they stock the food booths.

“If it's a normal temperature like 70's and lower 80's we sell more pop, so we'd stock heavier on pop and we'd sell more sandwiches, but when it gets hot people want water and they don't eat as much either,” Miller said.  

The city's first responders will be out in full force to keep people safe during the hot weather.

"We'll have about 30 extra people on staff just for that event, we'll basically have a city inside of a city expecting 100,000 people downtown here so we've got to take care of that event as well as keep the city of Green Bay protected at the same time,” said Lt. Nick Craig of the Green Bay fire department.

The Green Bay fire department treated 10 people for heat related illnesses at last year's event. But with temperatures expected be well into the 90's this year they are preparing just a little bit differently.

"We're anticipating those numbers are going to be a little higher but again we have plenty of resources to take care of that we'd rather be over prepared than under prepared,” said Division Chief Melissa Spielman.  

The same goes for Miller, who says his food booths will be prepared for anything. .

"It's always been a success for the 15 years or so that I've been here, even with temperatures in the 90’s don’t let that scare you,” Miller said. 

 

There will be 23 paramedics on duty during the event. They'll be equipped to handle any emergency, including heat related injuries with I.V. fluids and ice packs.
