GREEN BAY, WI--Cooler temperatures Indoors mean costlier power bill as we all try to get some relief from the heat, the air conditioning is running 24-7.
But there are a few things you can do to cut your costs.
A day on the water to stay cool..."We like to come here and go water skiing when its above 90," said Rick Lytie.
But like many familie, the Lytie's air conditioner is running non stop--even when they're not home! Bumping up the temperature saves some money but they're still expecting a hefty bill.
"We keep the air running all the time, at 79," said Lytie.
Besides adjusting the AC, which WPS says will make the biggest difference, there are a few more things you can do to keep your costs down.\
"Keep your lights off, keep your shades down, run your fans, every little thing you do will help your bill," said public relation manager for WPS, Lisa Prundy.
Another tip, be conservative about how many time you open and shut the your fridge. The average family open their fridge 40 times a day, each time letting hot air in ad making the fridge work hard to stay cool.
If you make the changes Prunty says you will save money. But how much is hard to estimate.
"It depends on your home size and the energy reductions you make in your home, that's the only way you'll reduce your bill" said Prundy.
All advice the Lytie family will remember when they're out of the boat and back in the house.
More advice: grill out. That will keep the hot air outside and save you power. Also , run appliances like the laundry and dishwasher at night.
