A Green Bay man makes his first court appearance accused of murdering his girlfriend. Richard Gardipee faces one count of first degree intentional homicide. A judge set his bond at $500,000 cash. Saturday night, his girlfriend Wendy Garcia was found dead in the basement of their home on Christiana Street on Green Bay's west side.

A criminal complaint states the couple got into a scuffle about Gardipee taking pain pills. That's when Gardipee reportedly told officers he stabbed Garcia on her shoulder and neck--then dragged her body to the basement so her 4-year old son Evan wouldn't see.

“I hope he goes away for the rest of his life,” Julie Pryes said, who was close friends with Garcia. “How could you take the mother of a 4-year-old boy? How? How could you feel it’s OK?”

Friends and family tell us Garcia and Gardipee were in an on and off relationship for about three years. While friends say they’ve fought before, they never imagined it would turn deadly.

“I keep thinking it’s a nightmare, and I can’t wake up from it,” Pryes said.

Gardipee’s attorney didn’t comment on the case. He’s set to go back to court July 18th. If convicted, he faces life in prison.
