Benefit For Victim Of Drunk Driving Crash
OSHKOSH-- Friends and family of Rodney Gruse are hosting a benefit to help cover his medical expenses after a drunk driver smashed into him in March.
Gruse was the passenger in a car when police say Miguel Cruz drove the wrong way down Highway 41 and hit the car head on. Gruse was rushed to the hospital where he stayed in a coma for a week. He still remembers that night. "There was a car coming the wrong way on 41, the guy looked like he was going to swerve away from us and at the last second I braced myself and he came right at us and hit us," Gruse said.
Gruse broke several bones and suffered a fractured pelvis. His medical bills total nearly $500,000 from his injuries. He attends physical therapy twice a week in hopes of being able to walk again one day. He has been in a wheelchair since being released form the hospital in April.
A benefit to help Gruse pay off the massive debt is happening Friday at the Electric Lounge in Oshkosh.
Below is the information on the benefit from Gruse's sister-in-law, who organized the event.
