FOND DU LAC, WI - The dry weather is causing concern for the upcoming 4th of July holiday.

Conditions are so dry in Fond du Lac; Fire Chief Peter O’Leary said they might have to cancel the fireworks show.

O’leary also said this is not the year for amateurs to be using fireworks.

"This is not the year to be with commercial fireworks," he said.

The chief said it doesn't get this dry, until August.  They will determine on the fourth whether to cancel the big show, by checking wind and using test runs. If they go ahead with the fireworks, they have requested extra personnel from communities nearby.

The chief recommends not using fireworks, but if you do, be prepared.

"Make sure you're on concrete or asphalt, somewhere that's a non-combustible surface," said O’Leary.

Have water on hand, supervise kids, and don't use alcohol.

Owners of Promen fireworks said if you follow the rules, the fourth can still be fun.

"We want them to have a good experience and we like repeat business,” said owner Dan Promen. "If somebody gets hurt, the fun is over."

They made their own guidelines and tips and stick the resources in each bag every time a customer comes in.
