Almost 70 percent of the homeowners signed a petition opposing the historic designation saying they just don't need another layer of government telling them what improvements they can make to their homes.
Julie Walsh and her family have been in their east forest avenue home for more than a decade... They spearheaded the effort to stop the city from dubbing this a historic neighborhood, saying they take care of their home, but the historic designation would make it harder to do that.
Gerry Andrews is the chairman of Neenah's Landmarks Commission, he says the designation will require 27 homes in this neighborhood to getapproval from the commission before making any vhanges which require abuilding permit and would protect these historic homes well into the
future.
During the council meeting About 10 people spoke out about the proposal, a majority, but not all were against it.
In the end, the common council voted -- to blank -- this was the second time the commission tried to designate the east forest avenue historical district. A simliar proposal was rejected by the council last year.
