Bellin Corporate Challenge
18 Thousand participated in the 2011 Bellin Run. According to Bellin Run Race Director Linda Maxwell, the largest number of new entries come from corporations. "Companies are finding that it is effective in getting their people off the couch, out of the chair and training for this wonderful event."
One company, Paper Transit Inc. has taken up the challenge to help its employees succeed. " The Bellin Run Corporate Challenge has been a part of our whole wellness program that we're doing.;" company president Jeff Shefchik explained. "This is the second year that we've done it. The first year we had I think 12 people that signed up for it and we have over 30 people signed up for the run this year. Once you get out there and start doing that exercise, it helps everything you do in your life, whether that's your family life or work or whatever hobbies you might have. You're going to be more successful, you're going to feel better with everything else that you do once you start a regular exercise program."
Alex Lawton, president of C. A. Lawton uses training for the Bellin Run in a wellness program. The goal is to make employees healthier which in the long run helps the company's bottom line. "We've worked a wellness program and have been trying to improve the health of all of us here at Lawton Company over the last say 7 or 8 years. I think the Bellin Run fits into that because it promotes activity and whatever the primary issues are whether you're battling Diabetes, weight issues, heart issues, activity is a huge aid to all those conditions."
Nearly 250 companies now participate in the Bellin Corporate Challenge and will be on the course on Saturday, June 9th. You can watch live coverage of the 2012 Bellin Run on MyNEW32 starting at 7:00am.
