2012 Bellin Run: Team CrosFit Goes Hardcore
For most people, competing in a 10-K run is challenging enough. That's why it's hard to imagine why someone would want to make their Bellin Run experience even more difficult on purpose.
That's exactly what Team CrosFit is doing. "We do 25 burpees every mile;" Bellin Runner Tom Schmidt tells us. "A burpee is just all the way down to the ground, chest to the ground, come up, jump up and clap your hands."
The question many want answered is 'Why'? "Why not?" Joe Kasprzycki explains. "We like to take things and make them harder than they need to be I guess. Kind of for the challenge of it really."
And their Bellin Run experience will resemble something out of a boot camp. "We start with a group of 6 people and there will be 2 20 pound weight vests, 2 people start with it. We will run 1 mile. The person with the weight vest will do 25 burpees along with everybody else;" Tom tells us.
The run gets harder from there, according Grant Soletski. "As soon as that is done, we take our vests, we switch them with 2 other people on our team, and then they run a mile. 25 burpees again, switch every mile, 25 burpees every mile and then at the finish line we do 25 burpees"
You can watch Team CrosFit and other runners at the 2012 Bellin Run. Live coverage begins at 7:00am on MyNEW32 on June 9th.
