No Protests Planned Against Archbishop
DE PERE, Wis. (AP) - Cardinal Francis George is expected give
the commencement address at St. Norbert College and receive an
honorary degree.
Chicago's archbishop received national publicity after
referencing the Ku Klux Klan when talking to a Chicago TV station
about the schedule and route for the annual Pride Parade in Chicago
in December. The parade is associated with lesbian, gay, bisexual
and transgender community.
Thousands of St. Norbert students, alumni and supporters signed
an online petition asking the college to drop George as speaker.
But St. Norbert President Thomas Kunkel said at that time the
school welcomes people with a variety of opinions and would not
rescind the invitation.
School spokesman Mike Counter tells the Green Bay Press-Gazette
(http://gbpg.net/M7x3g1 ) administrators don't know of any planned
protests during Sunday's commencement.
