Chilton Child Sex Abuse
Chilton-- Word of Richard Hostettler's arrest spread quickly in Chilton, the man who volunteered to work with kids in both church and a local not for profit is accused of 5 felonies related to child sexual abuse. Police say he did not meet his victim through the volunteer work. But police did find a journal inside his apartment, detailing sex crimes against local children. His neighbors never suspected it. "That's just shocking, that's just wrong why would somebody do that,” said neighbor Lucas Johnson.
"I didn't really expect it at all, I knew he did talk to kids but I didn't really think nothing of it until, I’m just glad that he got picked up,” said Holly Susen, who lived across the hall from Hostettler.
The investigation began when a teen age boy reported to police he was receiving sexually explicit text messages videos from Hostettler on his cell phone. Hostettler later admitted to several sexual encounters with the boy.
The 64-year-old Hostettler faces up to 185 years in prison if convicted of the crimes. Neighbors say they hope Hostettler’s arrest is the end of abuse, and his victims can begin to heal.
