Explosive Fire Conditions
Outagamie County-- This is the first time in several years that most of the state is under the "red flag" warning for a high risk of fires. In parts of northeast Wisconsin, that level is extreme, the highest danger level possible.
"The reason why went to the red flag warning for pretty much the entire state today is the due to a number of conditions that we're seeing,” said Ron Gropp of the DNR.
High humidity and dry grass mixed with high winds is prompting the warnings. The extreme fire danger means conditions are explosive, fires start easily, burn fiercely and are difficult to contain.
The DNR insists with a little cooperation and common sense when it comes to burning, wildfires won't spread throughout the state.
