Homeless Shelter Open House
Appleton, WI - There's a new man in charge at the Emergency Shelter of the Fox Valley.
The homeless shelter opened its doors Tuesday to introduce the community to its new executive director, Jerome Martin.
Martin spent 26 years in law enforcement, and has seen first hand the need to provide a safe environment for people to live.
"On any given day in the Fox Cities, if you count the number of people living under bridges and overpasses, parks, and include those residing in temporary shelters, you'll find that around 300 or more people are homeless," said Martin.
He says the best way to help is to donate your time or money to the shelter or other organizations that train the homeless to become independent.
