- A male donkey is called a Jack. A female donkey is called a Jenny. Their offspring are foals.

- Minature donkeys are less than 36 inches tall. The large standard donkey is 48-56 inches tall.

- Donkeys are often a lifeline to families in many regions of the world, and their most prized possession. They help with food and water collection, and help cultivate land.

- Donkeys are very affectionate animals and enjoy the companionship of people.

- The donkey does not have natural "waterproof" coats like horses - so they need shelter.

- Legend has it, donkeys are marked with a cross because they donkey carried Mother Mary into Bethlehem and later Jesus into Jerusalem.  (Dark hair on their backs forms a cross.)

- Donkeys are unfairly thought of to be stubborn and stupid. But, they are actually very intelligent animals!

- If well cared for, donkeys can live for more than 40 years.
