Clintonville, WI - A series of underground explosions in Waupaca County remains a mystery.

The blasts jolted the northeast part of Clintonville Monday morning. No evacuations have been ordered, and utility crews still haven't figured out what's causing them.

The first explosion happened just before 2AM. One neighbor says it felt like her house was coming off its foundation.

"All of a sudden, 'BOOM!' You could feel the vibration," said neighbor Leslie Berg.

Berg says she was shaken out of bed, and grabbed her son Preston before rushing outside to see what happened.

"It's as if someone takes a huge thing of dynamite," she said. "Windows rattled."

Berg and her neighbor Joel Lindert were among 30 people who were awaken by the explosions. 911 calls began pouring in.

Mark Pheiler says he could feel the ground shaking underneath his feet.

"I came outside, and everybody was standing there wondering what was going on," he said.

"The whole street was lined with people in their pajamas. Nobody knew what was going on," said neighbor Joel Lindert.

Neighbors say it isn't the first time they felt something like this, but the latest and biggest blast has many worried if it will happen again.

The city administrator says they will continue to cross possible explanations off the list, until they can figure out exactly what happened.
