Lambeau Scoreboards Recycled
Green Bay, WI - Out with the old, and in with the new. Stadium renovations are in full swing at Lambeau Field, but old materials aren't going into the landfill, they're being recycled.
The old scoreboard in the south endzone is coming down. These big screen monitors are filled with more than just metal.
"There's vinyl, there's plastic, there's lighting components, l.e.d. components, much bigger scale than your 27-inch tv that you're gonna take to get recycled," said Ted Eisenreich, Facility Operations Director for the Green Bay Packers.
That's where Waste Management comes in.
This flatbed semi truck is headed to Minneapolis, where 13 panels will be "de-manufactured."
"We're going to tear the parts apart, the scoreboards apart, to recycle upwards of 90%," said Dan Roddan, Account Manager, for Waste Management.
By law, Wisconsin has to e-cycle. For Waste Management, going green is the way to go.
"As you see, a lot of things are being taken out of landfills. We're trying to re-use things. We're trying to recycle things," said Roddan.
"It's all part of a $143 million project at Lambeau Field. Included in the plan, 6,700 new seats in the south endzone.
And brand new state-of-the-art monitors, more than one hundred feet wide. Construction of the new big screens should be ready, for kickoff, 2012.
