Teens Busted Making Phony Cash
Shawano-- Two teenagers are busted for counterfeiting, accused of making their own funny money in Shawano County. 19 year old Andrew Springborn and 18 year old Tyson Peters face up to 6 years in prison after they were busted making phony $20, $50, and $100 bills. “The bills look pretty good by themselves but when you put it next to real money it was apparent so the quality of the bills was pretty decent,” said Shawano police officer Jeff Lenzner.
Lenzner says the tip that did the teens in came from an alleged drug dealer in Clintonville. The dealer pointed a finger at the pair after they ripped him off for about $1200 worth of pot. The dealer sent the anonymous letter to cops, including the fake bills along with the suspects’ names and phone numbers. "So after that we did some investigation to determine the parties that were making that, executed search warrants at the residences and they were taken into custody and interviewed and gave us confessions,” Lenzner said.
Police say one more suspect is believed to be involved and another arrest could happen soon. The teens, meanwhile, remain the Shawano county jail, held on a $5,000 cash bond.
