Pulaski band song controversy
The Superintendent of Pulaski schools says there were no politics at play during the high schools Tournament of Roses performance Monday. The Red Raiders belted out the song "Union Maid" in what some, including website like the "Daily Kos" are calling a jab at Governor Scott Walker's policies. Superintendent of schools Mel Lightner says the tune was a tribute to the band directors Grandmother and celebrates the towns heritage. Lightner says, "for someone to say that anybody from Pulaski played that song for anyone other than a tribute to Tom's Grandmother is completely false." Lightner says the song also known as the "Red wing polka" has been played dozens of times by the band in previous performances without any controversy.
