Gary Ashenberg reached out to NBC 26 about his 911 service in Waushara County.   He says he found out the hard way that his 911 service wasn’t hooked up, when he needed it most. He tried dialing 911 one morning in November after a single car accident in front of his home. He says the driver lay in the road for almost an hour before an ambulance arrived.

Now he wonders how many others are like him in his area and have no idea what could happen when they need help. But the accident could have saved Ashenberg's life, because by dialing 911 that day, he and his wife found out the service did not work.  "One of us could go down with a heart attack or a serious injury and if 911 is not available you waste valuable minutes before you find out you don't have 911,”Ashenberg said.

This was the first time Ashenberg had to dial 911 since moving here 7 years ago. Waushara County Sheriff David Peterson tells NBC 26 regarding the 911 service:  "I'm always concerned, but I have no solution."

But Ashenberg hopes someone will bring attention to his story so a 911 call that never goes through, doesn't end in tragedy for someone else.

The phone company is investigating the situation.
