540,208, that's the number of signatures needed. A quarter of the votes cast in the November election to trigger a recall election. The number it will cost taxpayers seems to be a guessing game right now.

The petition drive to remove Governor Walker begins november 15th 60 days later..With the signatures needed a recall is next. But that special election will come with a price tag for taxpayers.

Reid Magney says,"We can't estimate the costs. Clerks don't have to report to us. I guess around 1 million."

The price tag for the 9 sentate recall elections last summer was somewhere in the range of 2 point 1 million dollars, but with a state wide recall that number could grow. In Outagamie County with 31 reporting units this past summer the cost came in between 20-and 25 thousand dollars. With all 95 reporting units that number could easily triple according to the Outagamie County clerk.

In Green Bay they hope to have the summer recall costs by the end of the month and the cost of a Governor's recall here still unknown.

Lauri Marenger says, "It depends on when the election is. If its tied to one of the other electiions."

Reid Magney states, "If the board determines there are enough signatures then that election has to be held 6 tuesday' is from when they determine that. That's the law."

If the recall goes thorugh the cost could be minimiized if it was tied to another election, but according to law the government accountability board says that may not be possible. Only once has a governor been recalled Arnold Swartzenegger took over for grey davis. The price tag for california around 55 million dollars. Although Wisconsin is much smaller the final number could still be very painful.
