Helping children who have suffered from some form of trauma can be an extremely difficult task for adults.

To respond to those children's needs, the Kewaunee County Department of Human Services and UW-Extension Kewaunee County are providing training for parents and caregivers of children who may have suffered from trauma.

"The training will help parents and caregivers better understand the behaviors of children who may have experienced some type of trauma, whether it be abuse, neglect, parental divorce or bullying,” said Kewanee County Human Service Director Bob Mattice.

The HOPE Committee, which stands for Helping, Outreaching, Preventing and Education, is organizing the workshop. It will consist of five sessions that will cover trauma, stress management, development of healthy behaviors and other topics.

The workshop sessions will be on the following dates:

  • Saturday, October 14th - 8:30AM-12:30PM
  • Thursday, October 19th – 5:00PM-7:30PM
  • Saturday, October 28th - 8:30AM-12:30PM
  • Thursday, November 2nd – 5:00PM-7:30PM
  • Saturday, November 11th – 8:30AM-12:30PM

The sessions will be at the Kewaunee County Department of Human Services at 810 Lincoln Street in Kewaunee.

“To maximize the learning potential, we encourage that attendees participate in all five sessions,” said Renee Koenig, UW-Extension Kewaunee County. “This is also an opportunity to earn up to 16 continuing education hours.”

Free childcare will also be available. When signing up, indicate how many children will need supervision, as well as their ages.

The registration deadline is October 1. To sign up, contact Renee Koenig at UW-Extension Kewaunee County at (920) 388-7137 or koenig.renee@kewauneeco.org.
