Fire damages Two Rivers apartment building

A fire damaged a four unit apartment building at 1814 Madison Street, Two Rivers at 7:35 a.m. Monday.  

Occupants of three of the for units have been displaced. All occupants evacuated safely, but one occupant was treated for smoke inhalation and released at the scene. Smoke alarms were not working in the affected apartment, apartment below fire or in the basement, according to the fire department.

The fire started in the attic of an upstairs apartment. Firefighters suspect the cause is electrical in origin. Damage, estimated to be $40,000, includes attic joists were severely damaged, along with a large ceiling area. Water damage occurred throughout two apartments, while smoke damaged the entire building.
